After I made my diary last night I went to bed and almost fell asleep straight away. Then I woke up at 8am, and got ready to go out to uni. A japanese student showed us to the International Department and we had an induction with a woman called Manako-san, who took loads of money from us for all different things - inkan, housing maintenance, insurance, rental bedding etc. and so I have way less money right now! Wooh. But she was really nice, and gave us a timetable of our classes and stuff which is this:
MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY | FRIDAY
9:00 - 10:30 | Grammar/expression | Kanji | Listening
10:40 - 12:10 | Conversation | Grammar/Expression | Reading | Writing | Grammar/expression |
13:00 - 14:30 | Japanese Culture 1 Murakami Haruki | Japanese Culture 2 Tea Ceremony |
So it's not too heavy. Then the Japanese students gave us a campus tour. We saw the library and some study rooms and IT rooms, and some just relaxing and socialising rooms. We also went to the cafeteria which was super busy and a bit intimidating. I wasn't sure what food was what, and I was worried I would find some meat, so I just had miso soup and white rice and a salad. It was actually really nice, but I would have liked to try one of the really cool Japanese meals.
Then after, we went on the train to the municipal centre where we applied for our alien registration cards. It took ages but I was quite happy really. We had to also apply for our Japanese Insurance which is compulsory and costs about 1,800yen a month. It's good though, because it means the Japanese government will pay 70% of any medical fees. And my insurance from Leeds should cover the rest so I don't have to worry about that.
Then we got the train back up and we walked to the shop, I went to a 100 yen store which was SO cheap. I have to go back there soon and buy lots of stuff I need because I couldn't get everything I wanted because I had too much stuff to carry. I bought a bin and a washing basket, a cup and a bowl and a glass with little apples and some briliant Engrish on it.
Tomorrow we're going down to Fukuoka town to do some more shopping and stuff.
I had a little wobble later on when I talked to Alex online and I felt sad. But mostly today was good.
